Holidays during term-time
In advance of any planned absence please complete a Pupil Absence Request Form and return to the school office. This should indicate the nature and length of absence. This form must be completed prior to any absence for our records.
Importance of good school attendance
Attainment and Future Prospects: Higher attendance strongly correlates with better exam results, higher engagement, and better long-term career prospects.
Wellbeing and Social Skills: Regular attendance helps children build positive relationships with peers and teachers, reducing the risk of isolation and developing social skills.
Impact of Absence: Missing only 10% of school (roughly 4 weeks) is considered a level of concern that can hinder a child's academic progress.
Inclusion and Support: Scottish policy focuses on inclusion, ensuring children feel safe and supported, which improves attendance and helps address anxiety or emotionally-based school avoidance.
Collaborative Approach: Schools work with families to manage attendance, acknowledging that it is a partnership to ensure children feel part of the school community.
Monitoring and Action: Scottish schools monitor attendance closely to identify, support, and address underlying issues, such as anxiety or personal circumstances, rather than relying solely on punitive measures.
